Symptom

You have automatically installed Wordpress as a quick setup from the application archive. Wordpress is not available at the top level of your domain, but in the subdirectory /wordpress.

Cause

There were one or more files in the document root directory of the domain before you started the installation. To prevent these files from being accidentally overwritten, Wordpress is installed in the subdirectory. While you can see this path before installation and change it if necessary, most customers are in such a rush that they don't take the time to make conscious adjustments. This means that "something" is quickly installed "somewhere".

Solution

To save your Wordpress installation and make it available in the main domain, you can do the following:

1. Clone your Wordpress installation into a staging directory (for example, staging.). Use the "clone" button of the Wordpress Toolkit of your webspace.

2. Then delete all files from the document root of the domain (for example, via FTP or File Manager). Make sure not to delete the contents of your webspace, but only the contents of the document root directory. For your main domain, the document root directory is e.g. mostly /httpdocs.

3. Then clone the Wordpress website again, but now clone the the staging version into the document root directory.

Cloning will preserve all the settings of your Wordpress website and database. The URLs within Wordpress articles and posts are adjusted to the new URL. You can leave the staging subdomain intact afterwards or remove it completely. It is no longer needed.
