Solution
If you add an umlaut domain (IDN domain, Internationalized Domain Name) to your webspace that you want to use as a webspace (that is no forwarding), the domain needs a webspace directory in your webspace folder. Normally the name of the data directory corresponds to the domain name. For Linux, directory names containing umlauts are inappropriate. We therefore recommend creating the directory in ACE spelling of the umlaut domain.
e.g. for a domain "übeltäter.de":
xn--beltter-8wa5s.de
This will ensure that the directory name is unique but contains only ASCII characters. Do not use transcription like "oe" for "ö" or "ue" for "ü", because if you later want to add the same domain in transcribed spelling, the directory name would already be taken.
To see the ACE spelling of an umlaut domain, you can use one of the numerous translators ("converters") on the Internet.
If you register the umlaut domain at Bitpalace, we will gladly set up the directory in ACE notation in your Bitpalace webspace account for you.
